Moody 31 MkII Overview
Limelight is a well-equipped example of the popular Moody 31 MkII, offering an excellent combination of comfortable family accommodation, proven sailing performance and practical cruising capability. Designed by Bill Dixon and built by Marine Projects in 1987, the Moody 31 remains a highly regarded East Coast cruising yacht, with a spacious interior for her size and a sensible, easily handled sailing plan.
Limelight is the fin-keel version and she benefits from a Volvo Penta D1-30 28hp diesel engine fitted in 2012, with approximately 500 hours, a 2024 One Sails mainsail, Webasto diesel heating, solar panel, shore power, inverter and a comprehensive range of navigation and safety equipment.

Cabin
The accommodation offers six berths in three cabins, with two double berths separate from the main saloon and approximately 6’2″ maximum headroom. Up forward, there is a V-berth with infill to create a comfortable double berth, together with good storage. The main saloon has settee berths to port and starboard around a central table with folding leaves and bottle storage, with additional lockers throughout.
The galley is positioned aft to starboard and is equipped with a Neptune 4500 two-burner gas cooker with grill and oven, fridge, stainless steel sink and good storage. Opposite is the aft-facing chart table with further storage. The separate heads compartment is located aft to port and incorporates a Jabsco marine toilet, washbasin with manual freshwater pump and storage. The aft cabin is situated to starboard and provides a generous double berth with hanging locker.
Blue velour upholstery, light blue curtains, teak and holly saloon soleboards and carpeted sleeping cabins. Webasto diesel-fired heating and a pressurised hot and cold water supply throughout.
Sails & Spars
Masthead-rigged Bermudan sloop with deck-stepped silver anodised aluminium mast and boom. Stainless steel standing rigging. Terylene running rigging. Slab-reefing mainsail with lazyjack system and headsail furling system. Two Lewmar self-tailing sheet winches and two Lewmar halyard winches.

Machinery
Located beneath the companionway in a vented and soundproofed compartment is the Volvo Penta D1-30 marine diesel engine, fitted new in 2012. 28hp, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated. diesel engine. Freshwater cooled via a heat exchanger, with electric start and single-lever controls. Shaft drive to a fixed three-bladed bronze propeller (new propeller 2026). Approximately 120 litres fuel capacity and approximately 500 hours recorded. Annually serviced. New VAC pump, water pump and calorifier hoses in 2026.

Construction
- Built by Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd in 1987 to a Bill Dixon design. White GRP hull with style stripes. White GRP superstructure and decks with light grey moulded non-slip surfaces. Cast iron fin keel. Tiller steering to a skeg-hung rudder. Self-draining cockpit, anchor well, alloy toe rails, stainless steel rails and guard wires and a sugar-scoop style transom. Last surveyed in 2024. Hull was taken right back to gel coat, primed and antifouled in 2026. Cabin windows and hatches rebuilt in 2026.
