Beneteau Grand Trawler 63 Overview

The Beneteau Grand Trawler 63 is built around one idea: going further, staying out longer, and doing it in genuine comfort. Where Beneteau’s Flyer and Swift Trawler ranges are about speed and versatility, the Grand Trawler 63 is a dedicated passagemaker – engineered around a full-displacement hull rather than a planing one, and tuned for efficient, quiet, stable cruising rather than outright pace.

She succeeds the Grand Trawler 62, winner of the European Powerboat Award in the Displacement category, and carries that pedigree forward with a sharper exterior, a redesigned helm and a longer standard equipment list. Built at Beneteau’s Italian facility with naval architecture by MICAD and styling by Nauta Design, the Grand Trawler 63 is less an evolution of what came before and more a restatement of what a long-range motor yacht should feel like to own.

Performance & Handling

Power comes from twin MAN i6-730 diesels, delivering 730hp each through straight shafts with joystick control for close-quarters manoeuvring. It’s a full-displacement hull – developed with French naval architects MICAD rather than adapted from a planing design – and that distinction is the whole point of the boat.

Beneteau’s own figures put her range at up to 900 nautical miles at an economical 9-knot cruise with a 10% fuel reserve, drawn from 3,870 litres of fuel carried in two stainless steel tanks. Top speed sits at just over 20 knots, while the boat’s natural cruising range is 8 to 12 knots – the speed band Beneteau’s Swift Trawler customers use most, and the one this hull is actually designed around.

The efficiency case for a full-displacement hull over a planing one is straightforward at these speeds: at 9 knots, the Grand Trawler 63’s hull needs around 30% less fuel and 35% less power than an equivalent planing hull would. A planing boat has to lift itself up and out of the water to reach its efficient speed, which takes disproportionate power to get there and more power again to recover after throttling back in rough water. A displacement hull holds a steady, efficient speed throughout, which is what makes 900nm passages realistic rather than theoretical.

The hull’s fine entry bow cuts through the water cleanly, with bow spray deflectors fitted under the flare to keep spray down, before transitioning into rounded bilge sections and a skeg keel for directional stability. Because the hull sits in the water rather than on top of it, windage is reduced compared with a planing boat’s flatter sections – and standard Sleipner electric fin stabilisers keep things settled further still, at anchor as well as underway.

A Flybridge Built for Distance

The flybridge is where the Grand Trawler 63 makes its case as a genuine live-aboard passagemaker rather than a bigger day boat. It’s a full-beam space, largely shaded by a solid slatted wood hardtop, with a raised central helm offering commanding visibility, an L-shaped bench to port, and U-shaped seating for eight around a folding solid wood table with built-in cup holders. An exterior galley sits behind the helm with a Corian worktop, storage and space for an optional electric grill – built for a full day spent up top rather than a quick trip between the saloon and the swim platform.

Forward of the helm, a further seating position and sun deck make the most of the flybridge’s width, and the whole area is reached by internal and external stairs, so moving between decks never means squeezing past guests.

Three or Four Cabins for Serious Cruising

The cabins are generously proportioned, beautifully finished, and designed to provide real comfort for extended cruising.

The Grand Trawler 63 is available with three- or four-cabin layouts, sleeping six to eight, with headroom nowhere less than 2.0m (6’6″) throughout. In the three-cabin version, a full-beam owner’s cabin sits amidships with a portside vanity desk, generous storage and its own en-suite, while a forward VIP cabin has an island bed angled to starboard for good views out and an en-suite of its own. A third cabin with twin beds – convertible to a double – has its own private door to a day head. Choose the four-cabin layout instead, and the amidships owner’s suite is replaced by port and starboard guest cabins, with the forward VIP cabin becoming the owner’s space.

A useful addition for owners running the boat with crew: a separate lazarette-accessed cabin aft, reached from the bathing platform, keeps crew quarters away from guest accommodation entirely.

A Galley for Life Afloat

The galley sits centrally, just a few steps from the helm, flybridge and saloon, so whoever’s cooking is never cut off from the rest of the boat. It’s properly equipped for extended trips: a Corian worktop, three-burner induction hob, extractor hood, multi-function microwave and a 255-litre fridge/freezer, with a dishwasher available as an option. A portside side door gives direct access out to the deck, useful for serving guests in the cockpit or on the flybridge without a detour through the saloon.

Terrace to the Sea

The cockpit is built to dissolve the boundary between boat and water. A transparent transom coaming with sliding port and starboard gates opens the aft cockpit straight out to the sea – Beneteau calls it the “terrace to the sea,” and unlike many rivals that orient cockpit seating back toward the saloon doors, the Grand Trawler 63’s layout faces outward, toward the view. Inside, the saloon continues the theme with large panoramic windows and a U-shaped seating area (an optional starboard sofa adds further seating), plus a table for eight that folds away with stowable chairs when the space is needed for something else.

Safe, Sociable Deck Layout

Moving around the Grand Trawler 63 has been considered at every level. Wide, well-protected symmetrical side decks run the length of the boat, with galley and helm side doors, bulwark gates, and internal and external stairs to the flybridge all contributing to safe, easy circulation. Full-width bathing platform stairs make dinghy handling straightforward, and a transverse step doubles as a place to sit once the platform is deployed.

One detail worth calling out: a dual-use day head and separate shower cubicle sit under the aft cockpit, reached through a gull-wing hatch to port – a proper amenity for swimmers and sunbathers who’d otherwise have to walk forward to the guest heads below.

Confidence at the Helm

The helm has been redesigned from the ground up, drawing on the Swift Trawler 54, with floating multi-function display screens and Xenta’s electric steering system in place of a conventional hydraulic setup. Using CAN-BUS communication instead of hydraulic lines, it removes the risk of oil leaks entirely and gives steering response closer to a car’s than a traditional boat’s. The central, raised pilot station has space for three 16-inch MFD screens, a relaxing chaise to port and an optional co-pilot seat, with an adjustable, bolstered pilot seat as standard.

Whisper-Quiet Stability

Standard Sleipner Vector Gen 3 electric fin stabilisers use over 50% less power than an equivalent gyro system, with no wait time before they’re active and 360-degree fin rotation, including a dedicated “on anchor” mode for stillness at rest. Extensive soundproofing throughout the living quarters, combined with the quieter electric steering system, keeps the cabin genuinely hushed underway. Owners who want to go further can specify the optional Silent Boat Pack, adding solar panels, a lithium-ion battery bank and a Victron SmartSolar system – a genuine alternative to running the generator at anchor.

A Connected Boat

Through the Seanapps mobile app and onboard unit, owners can check the status of the boat’s systems – including battery charge, fuel and water tank levels, and maintenance scheduling – straight from their smartphone, as well as plan routes and review sailing status on the move.

Why Choose the Beneteau Grand Trawler 63?

The Grand Trawler 63 is a boat built around a single, clear purpose: covering real distance in real comfort. She isn’t trying to be a fast flybridge cruiser that can also slow down – she’s a long-range cruising boat with enough performance in reserve to make a quick harbour change or a weather window work when it needs to. Her CE Category B certification reflects that brief, rating her for offshore passages in winds up to Force 8 and seas up to 4 metres, for up to 16 people aboard.

Where the Grand Trawler 62 asked buyers to add several essential packages before the boat was truly ready to cruise, the 63 ships fully loaded: Sleipner fin stabilisers, the Luxe interior pack and AGM service batteries are all now standard rather than optional extras. It’s a boat that’s ready to go the distance from the moment the keys are handed over, with three- or four-cabin layouts and a wide range of trim and equipment packs available to tailor her to the way you actually plan to use her.

For boaters after a genuine long-range motor yacht that trades outright speed for range, quiet and comfort, the Beneteau Grand Trawler 63 is one of the most capable passagemakers in her class.

Beneteau Grand Trawler 63 FAQ

What range can the Beneteau Grand Trawler 63 achieve?

Beneteau’s figures put the Grand Trawler 63’s range at up to 900 nautical miles at an economical 9-knot cruise, with a 10% fuel reserve, drawn from her 3,870-litre fuel capacity.

How many people can sleep and travel aboard the Beneteau Grand Trawler 63?

The Grand Trawler 63 sleeps six to eight people across three- or four-cabin layouts, and is CE Category B certified to carry up to 16 people while underway.

Are parts and servicing readily available for the Beneteau Grand Trawler 63 in the UK?

Yes. As an authorised Beneteau dealer, Fox’s Yacht Sales can assist with genuine Beneteau parts, technical support and servicing enquiries, helping to keep your Grand Trawler 63 in excellent condition throughout your ownership.

What’s the difference between the Grand Trawler 63 and the Grand Trawler 62?

Mechanically, very little – both share the same 18.95m hull, 5.45m beam and twin 730hp MAN i6-730 diesels, so the 63 isn’t a stretched or re-engined boat.

The differences are in standard equipment, systems and finish. Sleipner fin stabilisers, the Luxe interior pack and AGM batteries all move from optional extras on the 62 to standard fit on the 63, and hydraulic steering is replaced by Xenta’s electric system for a lighter, more precise helm. Inside, the 63 gets a redesigned lower helm console, a solid hardwood salon sole in place of the 62’s laminate floor, and an optional Silent Boat Pack – solar panels, a lithium-ion battery bank and Victron SmartSolar – as an alternative to running the generator at anchor.

Standard guest capacity has also been reworked: the 63 ships as a 6-guest, 3-head layout with 8 guests and a fourth cabin available as an option, where the 62 was standard for 8. Fuel capacity is very slightly down too, from 4,000 litres on the 62 to 3,870 litres on the 63. In short, it’s a considered refinement of a boat that was already working well, rather than a redesign.
