Bilge keeled, 3/5 berth cruising yacht with a wheelhouse. The Westerly Konsort was known as a really good performer both under power and under sail. The wheelhouse and consequent different layout made the Konsort Duo a real “Dual Purpose” cruising yacht.

Designed by Laurent Giles and built by Westerly in 1987, yard number 91 out of around 130.

Construction

White GRP hull with blue “Westerly style” cove and boot lines. White GRP deck and superstructure with grey/blue painted non-slip areas on the deck, cockpit seats and cockpit sole. Interior GRP mouldings with varnished teak and teak faced ply joinery work. Teak and holly sole boards. Bolt on, cast iron, bilge keels. Semi balanced transom hung rudder with tiller steering in cockpit and wheel steering in pilothouse

Machinery

Volvo 2003 3 cylinder, 28hp diesel engine. Flexibly mounted beneath saloon floor. Fresh water cooled through heat exchanger. Dual station, single lever controls. Shaft drive through reversing reduction gearbox. 3 bladed, folding bronze propeller. Approx 5.5 knots cruising speed. Around 2,350 hours recorded.

240v system – Shore power lead, RCCB, 240v outlets, Battery charger, Immersion heater.

Spars and rigging

Deck stepped, single spreader rig. Silver anodised alloy mast and boom. Slab reefed. 1 x 19 stainless steel wire standing rigging new in 2014. Polyester running rigging. Headsail furling gear. Sprung rod kicker. Spinnaker running gear and spinnaker pole. Controls led aft to cockpit in garage below wheelhouse sides to clutches and winches. Mainsheet track on coachroof.

Pilot berth: To port – full length, wide, single berth with easy access in, up steps to –

Deck saloon/wheelhouse – Helm station to starboard with wheel, chart stowage, instrumentation, helm seat (fridge under), 12v switch panel. Dinette to starboard with large dining table and face to face seating that converts to double berth. Galley – to port with twin stainless steel sinks, Plastimo Neptune 2500 cooker with 2 burners, oven and grill, good stowage. Door to cockpit.

Stainless steel pulpit, pushpit and stanchions. Stainless steel guardwires. Stainless steel stemhead fitting. Alloy mooring cleats (bow, stern and midships). Teak grabrails on wheelhouse roof and on forward coachroof. Adjustable genoa fairlead tracks on side deck. Towable mainsheet track on wheelhouse roof. Stainless steel bathing ladder on transom. FYS Comments

The Konsort Duo is a nice sailing boat with an enclosed wheelhouse for comfort in foul weather.

“Toucan” is a really nicely presented boat that has clearly been well updated over the years and especially during her current ownership.
