Figaro Beneteau 3 Launched

The Prototype Figaro Beneteau 3 has been launched in St Gilles Croix de Vie, the birthplace of Bénéteau. amid much excitement. The Figaro Beneteau 3 is the first production foiling one-design monohull ever to be designed.
Built by Beneteau with Van Peteghem – Lauriot Prévost Naval architect. A partnership of innovation and design.

The Foils

Contrary to Imoca 60 foils, the FB3 foils have an inward-facing profile. The way they operate is different. They are versatile foils that create drift reduction and improve the boat’s righting moment, without increasing the movement, which improves the boat’s performance.

The Keel

Deep, with a straight blade,  creates minimum drag. Supplementary drift reduction is provided by the foils.

The Hull

Made of foam sandwich, fibreglass and polyester infused resin, it corresponds to current designs and is ballast-free.

Mast and Sail Layout

Similar to the Imoca 60s, the mast is set back, providing balance under sail. This allows the use of high performance sails and the addition of a bowsprit. Solo sailors will sail with a square-top mainsail, a genoa and a jib, but also a masthead spinnaker (105 m² (=125 yd²) to gain speed in a light breeze) and a small gennaker.

Mainsail area: 39.5 m² (420 ft²)

Jib area: 30.5 m² (323 ft²)

Large spinnaker area: 105 m² (125 yd²)

Figaro Beneteau Circuit

The Figaro circuit, including the well-known “Solitaire URGO le Figaro”, is renowned for being difficult. It unites the best French offshore racing sailors, who compete in ten races a year. The best sailors started out on the FB1and FB2. The FB3 has been designed to meet the requirements of this circuit, but may well suit other uses!

Fleet FYS BOW 17_63

The 18th FYS Beneteau Owners weekend was held on the Saturday the 1st of July following the now traditional format of a morning trot round the cans off Dovercourt Bay with a river race on the Orwell and Stour in the afternoon.

Three Classes (FIRST under 30’, FIRST over 30’ and OCEANIS) mustered safely just off the Harwich breakwater for the 11.00am, all classes, downwind start.

A pleasant and surprisingly warm 14 knot NNW breeze meant the classes had soon rattled round their respective courses. Line honours went to the FIRST 27.7 “Shazam” albeit the FIRST under 30’ sailed a slightly shorter course.

At 13.45 the river race started with the wind drifting off slightly but still from the NNW and with bright sunshine. A trundle out to Pye End, 2 separate turning marks up the Stour (shorter course for the smaller FIRSTS’), then up to Orwell number 3 was the prescribed course. As the sea breeze filled in the small Firsts managed to wiggle through the “Doldrums” at Felixstowe quicker than the larger boats. That said, the OOD took the wise decision and shortened the course to finish at Fagbury Point.

After applying the scientifically derived handicaps an extremely close set of results was produced with 2 out of 3 classes going to countback and the OCEANIS fleet finishing over 2 hours racing within 3 minutes of each other on corrected time.

Once again this lighthearted and fun “Regatta” is organised in aid of the RNLI and we would like to thank all our sponsors and supporters for the gifts and prizes and to all the competitors for their donations raising almost £1,000, great effort!     RNLI-logo

Oceanis Yacht 62 | European Yacht of the Year

The Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 62 an innovative new breed of sailing yacht that has succeeded in taking practical influences from the motorboat sector. Key features include the transom design with steps built into each side to easily access the garage and jet tender, flat decks to maximize sunbathing area, a 45º companionway, and proper privacy for the owner’s cabin.

The modern, original styling, including the use of leather, indirect lighting and carpeted cabins, feels luxurious – in a word, ‘executive’. A tender garage with a practical launching system for a 2.85m jet rib is a clever selling point. But it’s the introduction of an industrialised new build technique to make this size of yacht more affordable that demonstrates why Groupe Beneteau remain world leaders in their field.
